South Bay Music Symposium
The South Bay Music Symposium is an annual, specialized two-week summer camp for elementary, middle school and high school band students with at least one year of playing experience. Education Director, Edie Rice uses the California State Curriculum Standards for Music Education to create the content for the symposium. Other Los Angeles area music professionals on each instrument are hired for special performances and clinics, as well as sectional rehearsals.
This year the highlight will be a visit by System Blue Education Director, Mr. Frank Troyka, and sponsored by Conn Selmer. He will be a guest conductor and speaker for 3 days.
New this year will be the Young Musician Jazz class. These students will have exercises in improvisation and the different Jazz genres.
Students experience individual attention in a sectional setting, small-ensembles, as well as large group ensemble experience. Students work on their tone through breathing exercises, rhythm studies for playing more precisely in an ensemble setting, music theory, and audition techniques.
The South Bay Music Symposium is open to all band students in the South Bay with 1 or more years of playing experience.

We do hold a break during the afternoon, please bring a snack.
We do spend some time outside (typically in the shade) but sunscreen is a good idea.
