Throughout the El Segundo Concert Band's 20 year history they have developed a reputation for intriguing and entertaining concerts presented in a family atmosphere. The band performs 3 seasonal concerts, 2 to 3 community events, and a summer concert-in-the-park series every season.

Steven Allen Fox, Music Director/Conductor

Maestro Steven Allen Fox is an innovative concert creator, conductor, producer and composer He has conducted or produced over 100 premieres of new compositions and suites. Steven has conducted the San Francisco Symphony, the Silly Symphonies Orchestra, Hollywood Studio Symphony, Golden State Pops Orchestra, and the Video Games Live Orchestra. Special engagements include “Disney's The Little Mermaid Live in Concert” with the San Francisco Symphony, Guest Conductor for the international film music festival “Fimucité” in Tenerife, Spain, and the Assistant Conductor position for the World Premieres of “Beauty and the Beast In Concert,” “The Little Mermaid Live in Concert “ and “Coco Live-to-Film Concert Experience.” With the Golden State Pops Orchestra, which Steven founded in 2002, he has had the privilege to be Principal Conductor for “The Magnificent Movie Poster World of Drew Struzan,” the Varése Sarabande 35th Anniversary Concert Gala Series in Los Angeles, and “A Spoonful of Sherman: A Symphonic Concert.” 


Steven has had the opportunity to work with some of the most influential composers and artists in the industry. Notable professionals Steven has worked with, or shared the stage with include Kelsey Grammer, Zooey Deschanel, John Stamos, Rebel Wilson, Taye Diggs, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Shoshana Bean, Cheech Marin, Peter Gallagher, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, Alan Silvestri, Richard Sherman, Thomas Newman, John Debney, Michael Giacchino, and Michael Kosarin. 

Steven has a Bachelors Degree in Music Theory and Composition from Illinois State University and a Graduate Certificate in Film and Television Scoring from the University of Southern California.

Matthew Visk, Guest Conductor

Matthew received his BA in Music Education from UCLA where he was the Drum Major of the UCLA Bruin Marching Band as well as a student conductor for the Symphonic Band. Some of Matthew's musical highlights include playing trumpet for the opening of the Rolling Stone's 50th & Counting Tour and the 24th season premiere of the Amazing Race. He is currently the President and Music Director of LA Chamber Music Company and South Bay Pit Orchestra. Additionally, Matthew has two master's degrees in theology and is a PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge in England. Matthew also is an adjunct professor at the Asia Graduate School of Theology, Nepal. Matthew is the Director of Bands at Narbonne High School.

Paul Draper, Narrator

Paul Draper has been seen on History, A&E, HBO, Discovery, Hallmark, Travel, HGTV, and shows like Hell’s Kitchen, Pawn Stars, Mindfreak, and House Hunters. In Las Vegas, he has headlined showrooms for casinos including the Orleans Casino & Planet Hollywood and served as house magician for 7 years at the Venetian. Recently he has been working as a professor at SOKA University and Thomas Jefferson University while also performing shows at Disneyland and for thousands of people a week at home over Zoom.


Paul Henning, Piano/Violin

Composer and multi-instrumentalist Paul Henning enjoys a versatile music career in both film and live performance. Paul has composed the original music for the feature documentaries Foreman, Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of our Lives, and The Town That Was. He has worked on the score orchestrations for over 50 feature films, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The BFG, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and Chocolat. In addition to his film writing, Paul also works on orchestral arrangements that have received performances by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Hollywood Howl Orchestra, and London Symphony. 

 

He has helped create concert suites from the film scores, Spider-man, The Passion of the Christ, and Peter Pan, as well as multiple works from the catalogs of the Golden Age film composers Dimitri Tiomkin and Elmer Bernstein.  Paul has also completed band arrangements for the Television Shows "American Idol," "The Singing Bee," and "Sunday's Best."

 

An accomplished pianist and violinist, Paul has performed with the Hollywood Studio Symphony on the soundtracks to Moana, Storks, Furious 7, Frozen, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Maze Runner, Monsters University and  Alice in Wonderland,, among many others.  He has also played violin for Barbra Streisand, Michael Bublé, Neil Young, Aretha Franklin, Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban.  Paul has served as Concertmaster for the Golden State Pops Orchestra since 2004. 

 

Paul grew up on his family's 130-year old wheat farm near Pullman, Washington. He studied music at the University of Southern California and Washington State University.

Give the gift of music to your Mother this Mother’s Day by joining the El Segundo Concert Band (ESCB) as they celebrate their 20th Anniversary. For 20 years ESCB, and its parent company the South Bay Music Association, have provided free concerts and high quality music education to the El Segundo community, entertaining and educating thousands. Join Maestro Steven Allen Fox, special guest ESUSD Superintendent Dr. Melissa Moore, former ESCB alumni, and other community leaders, in this special celebration of great music. 

In addition, this will be the going-away tribute to Edie and Mike Rice, two pillars of the El Segundo community. The Rices have been an integral part of ESCB and SBMA since it’s inception, as well as all levels of instrumental band music in the El Segundo School District. Come help say goodbye to the Rices as everyone celebrates 20 years of music in El Segundo.

Music can express an emotion, excite us with joy and laughter, or take us through incredible stories of wonder. “The Stories Music Tell” will present a selection of programmatic music that was written specifically to tell a story, portray an event or express a feeling. You will be swept away by the sounds and stories created by the El Segundo Concert Band. This extraordinary, free, family-friendly concert will take listeners on the journeys within the music.

Just for Laughs Concert presented by South Bay Music Association and played by the El Segundo Concert Band under the direction of Steve Allen Fox, delighted the audience with humor and music July 21st, at the ESHS Performing Arts Center. Other Symposium groups also entertained under the direction of Edie Rice.

Thank you to those who donated at the free concert to this worthy cause of keeping the music playing in our schools and community, including a generous gift from the Masonic Lodge. If you were unable to attend you can see the concert on ESTV YouTube channel in about two weeks. Thank you to ESTV for joining us at the concert. 

Bravo to the jazz band formed by the Symposium students after playing together for just two weeks under the direction of Robert Soto. 

And we thank the merchants, Stuft Pizza, Britts Bar-B-Que, and Coldstone Ice Cream for joining us outdoors to enhance our picnic and dining atmospere.

Audience Members praised the extraordinary free concert provided by the El Segundo Concert Band on Sat. March 3rd with the music of Carmina Burana concluding the concert in all of it's musical intensity and glory. The Master Composers would be proud of the entire performance which will be posted on YouTube within the next few weeks to be enjoyed for many years to come.
