June 13 — 7:00 PM
Redondo Union High School Auditorium
1 Sea Hawk Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277
To celebrate 250 years since the founding of the United States, West Coast Wind Symphony presents a full concert of American composers! A fanfare by John Williams is joined by Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. The program then moves from Broadway to Carnegie Hall with George Gershwin's groundbreaking Rhapsody in Blue.
The concert is anchored by the tragic and beautiful Symphony no. 4 by David Maslanka. Presented in a single movement, this Symphony includes an original hymn, and the "Old Hundredth" doxology hymn. And is inspired by the life and death of Abraham Lincoln.
West Coast Wind Symphony is re-formed from the South Bay Wind Ensemble, and is determined to be the premiere wind band in California and on the West Coast. Rich Capparela of KUSC praised the Symphony, saying "The group is polished, warm and altogether, well, together. A feast for the ear!" Join West Coast Wind Symphony on June 13 in Redondo Beach for America at 250!
